Household energy prices will rise by 13% a year in July - an average increase of £221 a year - as households continue to pay the price for Trump’s disastrous war with Iran, backed by the Conservatives and Reform.

And it’s not just energy bills that are soaring, rising fertiliser prices will increase the price of food too.

John Castle, Medway Liberal Democrats spokesperson said "Heating and eating are two of the most basic things Medway families should not need to worry about being able to afford.

The Conservatives and Reform have constantly attacked and dismissed renewables - the cheapest form of energy we have. They have no solution for struggling families and businesses.

And, while the Labour Government finally listened to our plans to break the link between expensive, volatile gas and electricity prices, they must follow through with their promises and go much further to cut the cost of living.

Only the Liberal Democrats have an ambitious plan to halve energy bills in the next decade, including by: Investing in cheap, clean renewable power.

Making homes in our towns more efficient to run, cheaper to heat in the winter, and keeping them cooler in the summer with an Emergency Home Upgrade insulation plan - with free insulation for those on low incomes, and ensuring that all new homes are zero-carbon.

Breaking the link between gas and electricity prices so bills are no longer at the whim of volatile global markets and international events and are instead based on the prices of cheap renewables."
